Material Spec
Engineered stone composed of natural quartz crystals bound with resins and pigments. Non-porous, durable, virtually maintenance-free, and available in a controlled palette of colors and patterns no quarried stone can match.
About the Material
Quartz countertops are typically composed of roughly 90 to 95 percent natural quartz crystal, bound together with polymer resins and pigmented to specification. The result is a manufactured slab with the hardness and visual richness of natural stone, but with consistency, predictability, and a non-porous surface that requires no sealing.
For many of our clients, quartz is the practical choice — the surface that disappears into use. It does not need to be babied. It does not stain when red wine sits overnight. It does not etch when lemon juice splashes. It does not need to be resealed annually. For families, busy households, commercial spaces, and anywhere maintenance friction matters, quartz wins on those criteria alone.
What quartz cannot do is be heat-resistant in the way natural stone is. The resin binder is the limiting factor — sustained or extreme heat can scorch, discolor, or damage the surface. We always recommend trivets, and we caution against using quartz in unshaded outdoor applications where UV exposure can cause discoloration over time. Specify quartz for its strengths; choose granite or quartzite when heat tolerance matters more.
Where We Use It
The applications where quartz performs at its best.
The most common application — kitchen counters, full-perimeter installations, waterfall islands, and integrated bar tops. Consistent slab-to-slab appearance simplifies large projects.
Vanity tops, integrated backsplashes, and shower curbs. The non-porous surface resists toothpaste, makeup, and cosmetic spills without the staining risk of natural stone.
Quartz fabricated into floating shelves, accent walls, and waterfall ledges. The consistent material allows long uninterrupted spans with precise edge profiles.
Restaurants, retail counters, office reception desks, hospitality bars. Quartz holds up to high-traffic commercial use with minimal maintenance.
Backsplashes that match the countertop for a continuous look. Full-height slab installations behind ranges or behind vanities for a clean architectural statement.
Home bars, butler's pantry counters, and outdoor (covered) entertainment spaces. Resists staining from wine, citrus, and acidic spills better than any natural stone.
